- Pre-game Setup: Select your teams, set up the board, assemble your hero bases, and equip armor tokens. This phase prepares the battlefield and your teams for combat.
- Deployment: Build your defenses by setting up walls and strategically placing your heroes in the deployment zones. This phase is crucial for determining your initial strategy and positioning.
- Battle: Engage in turn-based combat, maneuver your heroes, and use their unique skills and abilities to gain the upper hand. This phase is where all strategic planning comes to life. You can achieve victory through total elimination or domination points by winning more turns.

Hero Activations are the core actions that players take during a turn in "Heroes of Timeline." Each hero can only be activated once per turn, and activations are where you decide your moves, attacks, and strategic plays.
- Activating a Hero: During a turn, players take turns activating one hero at a time from their team. You can activate your heroes in any order, but each hero can only be activated once per turn. To keep track of which heroes have been activated, it's helpful to turn their hero cards over after activation.
- Move-Turn-Attack Sequence: When a hero is activated, they follow the Move-Turn-Attack sequence:
Hero activations are critical to your strategy and can determine the outcome of each turn. Choosing the right hero to activate at the right time can give you a significant advantage.

- Superior Armor: Offers protection against both ranged and melee attacks. If a ranged attack hits superior armor, it is downgraded to regular armor. If a melee attack hits superior armor, it is destroyed, but the hero stays in the game.

- When to Use a Reflex Move: If a player with fewer heroes has activated all their heroes before the turn ends, and the opposing player still has remaining activations, the outnumbered player can perform a Reflex Move instead of a regular activation. This maintains the balance of activations between both teams.
- What You Can Do: During a Reflex Move, you can either:

Börd’s Punishments are penalties that the losing player (or both players in the case of a stalemate) must endure after each turn. These punishments are designed to add an extra layer of strategy and challenge:
- After Turn 1: All heroes in your team have their movement range reduced by 1 in Turn 2.
- After Turn 2: Heroes cannot use their unique abilities in Turn 3, but team skills can still be utilized.
- After Turn 3: The ranged attack distance for all heroes in your team is reduced by 1 for Turn 4.
- After Turn 4: All armor of every hero in your team is downgraded (Superior to Regular, Regular to No armor).
These punishments can dramatically shift the course of the game, so it’s crucial to anticipate and plan around them.
